IV Eagle Flyby - May 22, 2023

Community Day
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the 2023 IV Community Day a success. Students did community work across the Harleysville area and participated in activities on the fields of Indian Valley raising money for #IronDad23. It was awesome to see the many students, staff, and volunteers participating in the day. A thank you to the #IronDad23 organization for assisting in running the event. The organization is a sponsor of many things throughout the district and is the reason we have the IV mentor program and #IronDad23 room at Indian Valley. Furthermore, #IronDad23 is a 501c (3) Charitable Non-Profit that has been set up to continue the Legacy of Clark Deardorff. Clark lived life to the fullest while helping others and giving back anyway he could. #IronDad23 is doing the same, helping local families in need, our student athletes, and many others in the area.

A special thanks to all the sponsors for supporting Community Day, Harleysville Bank, Quakertown National Bank, SAEA Community Outreach, ACE Hardware, Eckert Landscapes Inc., DCO Orthodontics, Lindsay Tree Removal, Allison Healy Realtor BHHS Fox & Roach, Three C Consulting Group, Haines Custom Builders LLC, Hamburger Roofing and Sheetmetal, Jaffe Insurance Solutions LLC – Staci Tosi, Skippack Pharmacy, and Syna Tek Solutions.

PJAS State Competition
On May 14-16th 18 seventh and eighth grade students traveled to Penn State to compete in Pennsylvania Junior Academy of the Sciences State Competition.  Congratulations to all the students! Everyone had a blast eating Creamery ice cream, living the dorm life, experiencing dining hall food, and sharing their science fair projects. A special shout out to Jordan Edwards for his special award for Excellence in the Sciences and a perfect score for his presentation!

Spring Athletics
Congratulations to the boys baseball team and the girls softball team for fantastic seasons. The boys finished undefeated in league play and won the Bux Mount Championship. The girls softball team went undefeated this year, making it three consecutive undefeated seasons and three straight Bux Mount Championships. The girls lacrosse team finished the season at 7-2, girls track at 5-4, and boys track finished the season at 6-3. A super job by all the athletes and coaches!

Unified Sports Bocce 2023
The IV Bocce Team traveled to IC to partake in the 2023 Unified Sports Bocce Tournament. The tournament included a fantastic catered lunch, the tournament, and an ice cream celebration to close the tournament. Fun was had by all participants and the IV Bocce Team are champions once again. Thank you to all the athletes, coaches, and students for making this annual event enjoyable to all!

Girls in STEM
We held the last Girls in STEM activity for the school year on May 17th.  The Engineering/Tech ladies from the high school provided fun engineering activities for the participants. Thank you to all the students and facilitators for making the Girls in STEM activity an ongoing and growing activity! Also, thank you to Mrs. Suzanne Thomas for coordinating the program for our students.

IV SAVE Garden
The school garden is looking better than ever after the addition of two custom-made picnic tables and a new compost bin, hand crafted by Jack Metzger, a senior at Souderton High School. Jack is completing his final service project to become an Eagle Scout, and he did a fantastic job. Thanks Jack!

On Friday, Penn View Farm donated 4 yards of mushroom soil to add organic material to our garden and improve soil health. Students are excited to finally be planting this week! The kids have done an awesome job preparing the gardens and we look forward to a bountiful harvest.

Unfortunately, due to the cold nights we lost some of our first planting. Anyone looking to donate extra plants, please feel free to drop them off at the office. The vegetables that we harvest are used in the cafeteria and donated back to the community. For more information about the SAVE Garden contact Mrs. Suzanne Thomas at suthomas@soudertonsd.org or Mr. Zack Hockman at zhockman@soudertonsd.org
