Accelerated Math Assessment - May 6th

The 7th Grade Accelerated Math course is a compact and advanced program that provides the rigor necessary to prepare students to take the Algebra 1 course in 8th grade. It is a fast-paced course that covers the PA Standards of grades 7 and 8 in a one-year course of study. An overview of the content can be found on page 4 of the District's 7th Grade Curriculum Overview.

Multiple criteria are used to determine which students will most likely be successful in this rigorous course of study. Criteria include the spring MAP math data, course grades for Math 6, and student score on the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test.

On May 6, 6th grade Math teachers will administer the Orleans-Hanna Prognosis Test to all students currently enrolled in Math 6 during their Math block. Students currently enrolled in 6th Grade Accelerated Math will not take the assessment..

The test introduces new information and requires students to use their reasoning skills to discover answers. The problem-solving items help accurately assess students' ability to handle new situations. Students meeting the criteria will be notified in June and enrolled in the 7th Grade Accelerated Math course for the 2025-2026 school year. Students who do not meet the criteria will be enrolled in Math 7.

Parents who do not want their child to take the Orleans-Hanna Placement Test and not be considered for the 7th Grade Accelerated Math course must e-mail their student's math teacher by May 2.

Please contact your student's math teacher or school counselor with any questions.
