Informational Update 08-24-2020

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I know the decisions you made over the past few weeks were challenging. I talked with many parents and understand the burdens you may be managing as we move toward opening schools on Tuesday, September 8.

As the much-anticipated opening of the 2020-2021-year approaches, the SASD community is very excited to get things started in-person and with the SAOA (Souderton Area Online Academy). Please note that the IV staff is steadfast in providing the best educational experience possible to your children in whichever learning environment your child is enrolled.

With the petal to the metal, below is some important information to opening the 2020-2021 year.

Student Schedules

Student schedules live on HAC (Home Access Center) has been changed from Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, September 2 at 4:00 P.M.

Severe Allergy Information

There are students in our school who have severe allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, dairy products, eggs, fish/shellfish, and apples. If these students eat foods containing these products, the adverse reaction could be life threatening. In addition, touching shared materials with these products presents an increased risk for these children. Therefore, we encourage you to talk with your child/children about the importance of handwashing after eating and not sharing food with others.

In order to provide for the safety and well-being of all students, we are asking parents to help us try to limit exposure to peanuts/tree nuts, peanut butter, eggs, and dairy by refraining from sending snacks that contain these products into the classroom setting (i.e. if a time for snacks is offered during instructional time). This includes “powdery” coated chips such as Doritos, Cheetos or Goldfish crackers. This does not include the cafeteria. It is also a good idea to explain to your child/children that the food you send to school is only for your child to eat due to potential serious allergic reactions. We appreciate your understanding of creating a safe learning environment for all of our students.

School Messenger Emails

This week we had some problems with our messenger emails to parents. We believe that we have fixed the problem. However, if you know of anyone that has not received emails from IV, please have them call the main office at 215-256-8896.

Information regarding device distribution is forthcoming. The office is open daily from 7:30 to 4:00 for any questions you may have regarding the opening of school.

Be Well,

Jeff Pammer, Ed.D.
