To learn to understand one's self while at the same time learning all about the options and possibilities that the world offers is an important part of the growth of middle school students.

The guidance program helps students find how they fit into the middle school program of studies and activities as individuals. Guidance counselors help match students to their instructional needs and see that these needs are met on an on-going basis, in three ways:

  1. Personal and group counseling: Counselors work directly with students on a problem-solving basis. A group of students may share a common concern and be counseled together. Personal matters are handled individually.
  2. Team meetings: Counselors meet with all staff members periodically concerning students. They also meet with each instructional team at least once per cycle.
  3. Scheduling: Counselors advise the school administrators of student needs as students are scheduled each year. Where course choices are involved, counselors advise students of available options and counsel the students, in cooperation with parents, on their course selections.
