Eight students from Indian Valley Middle School participated at the annual Valley Forge Regional MathCounts Competition on February 25th, 2006 at William Tennett High School. A team of 7th-graders at Indian Valley competed individually and as a team, solving numerous and challenging problems. Another team of 6th-graders also attended and participated at the MathCounts Competition. Nearly 400 students from Bucks and Montgomery County middle schools competed in the day-long competition of math problems. MathCounts is a nationally recognized middle school program, which seeks to expose students to diverse methods of problems solving, and promotes excellence in mathematics for 6th through 8th grades. MathCounts promotes student interest in mathematics by making math achievement as challenging, exciting, and prestigious as a school sport. Mr. Andrew Johnson, a 7th-grade math teacher at Indian Valley, accompanied the students as their coach at the Regional Competition. These eight students were chosen from the 25 to 30 students who participated in the MathCounts club. MathCounts at Indian Valley Middle School is an extra-curricular activity, which meets weekly from September to February providing students a chance to compete individually and as a team, learning the rewards of hard work and teamwork.
