Sixth Grade Planned Course In Art

This course will focus on development of student knowledge in the art studio areas of drawing, painting and ceramics. Students will concentrate on line as an element of design, with particular emphasis on twentieth century art. Student art experiences will include integrated study in studio art, art appreciation and art history.

Course Objectives:

  1. The students will develop a working knowledge of the definition of line as an element of design.
  2. The students will incorporate the element of line in each project they complete.
  3. The students will develop an art vocabulary which will apply to content area projects and works of art.
  4. The students will work with a variety of art materials.
  5. The students will be introduced to famous works of art and some art history.
  6. A notebook will be made in art class and students will be required to keep all materials received.
  7. Students will be expected to:
    • cooperate with the teacher and classmates
    • work diligently
    • clean up work areas
    • take care of classroom supplies
    • complete assigned projects
  8. The students will satisfactorily complete each of the assigned projects. The projects will be evaluated by a variety of the following criteria:
    • degree of individual creativity
    • neatness or craftsmanship
    • adherence to assignment

Seventh Grade Planned Course In Art

The seventh grade visual art program is designed to provide opportunities for success regardless of a student's drawing ability. Projects are designed to be contemporary, unusual and engaging for the seventh grade student's unique way of seeing the world.

Course Objectives:

  1. Each student's project must meet two or three specific requirements and yet be creative and unique. As a result, this course engages higher levelthinking skills, problem solving abilities, and individual interpretation.
  2. The skills practiced will include:
    • investigating the nature of art
    • evaluating art
    • investigating the art/culture connection
    • producing works of art
  3. The areas explored will include:
    • the principles of design
    • the lives of certain artists
    • the nature of shape and form
    • the methods of three-dimensional construction
  4. The projects will be graded on:
    • degree of difficulty attempted
    • problem solving
    • creativity
    • working independently
    • meeting project criteria
